The Green Lady – Logo
Brand new zero-waste shop The Green Lady required a logo to define the startup's brand identity and help the business grab attention and stand out from the crowd.
The Green Lady was a zero-waste shop set up and based in Falkirk town centre, focusing on plastic-free and environmentally friendly household items including toiletries and cosmetics. As a brand new business, the owner Laura was starting from scratch and knew she required a logo to define the business' brand.
As the first impression for a brand new business, the logo needed to be bright and bold to stand out from the crowd, and to symbolise the brand's key values of providing zero-waste, environmentally friendly and healthy products.
The final logo design grew from the shop's existing charm and the theme of reuse. Early concepts focused on a handmade look and feel, using script fonts for a handwritten look to the lettering, and framing the name with a recycling symbol or floral decorations to underscore the themes of natural, zero-waste products. During development, Laura highlighted how recycled and reusable glass jars were often used as part of the shop's displays and product storage. This inspired a design with the business name framed in a stylised jar, producing an icon that felt charming and appropriate to the business' presentation while tying back in to the theme of zero-waste.
To stand out from the crowd and differentiate from other environmentally-themed brands, we wanted to avoid the clichéd earthy greens and browns used by similar brands. Instead, the primary palette consisted of a cheerful, energetic and eye-catching green, paired with a strong and dark teal to provide maximum contrast. The end result is a logo that immediately engages attention, standing out from the crowd both in retail and in the zero-waste market.
